Free English Lessons - #4, Grammar - Future forms... will, present continuous& be going to

We can use be going to, the present continuous and will to talk about future plans, decision and arrangements.

   A plan
   - I'm going to see that film tomorrow.

   An arrangement
   - I'm flying to Paris on Friday.

   A spontaneous decision
   - I've forgotten my my suncream. I'll go to the shop and buy some.

We can use will and be going to for future predictions.

Be going to - when a prediction is based on strong evidence - you could find definitely before the main verb:

   - Look at those clouds. It's definitely going to rain.

Will - with a generally prediction, and you could find probably before the main verb. Perhaps at the beginning of the sentence.
   - They'll probably win the match.

Il venerdì de the guardian: "Beyond bunga bunga"

Good morning Italians! This is a present for us. It means that we have to go on and on to erase these 17 years of Berlusconi.
Yesterday the guardian in its insert g2 did a close examination of our situation.
Under the title and subtitle:

Life after Berlusconi
Seventeen years of Berlusconi has meant rising poverty, rampant price-fixing, strengthened organised crime, a burgeoning black market and a shocking brain drain.
So what next for troubled Italy?

Traduzione:

Buongiorno Italiani!

Always hardcore (One)... the history of a song from Pearl Jam to Scooter through Bodylotion

Today I want show the history of one of the most popular song of the 2000's "Scooter - One (Always Hardcore)", which is partially a cover of "Always Hardcore" by Bodylotion (my prefered), which itself is based again on the chorus refrain of "Alive" by Pearl Jam, taken from the 1991 album Ten.

Bodylotion - Always Hardcore (1996)

Scooter - One (Always Hardcore) (2004)

Pearl jam - Alive (1991)

Free English Lessons - #3, Grammar - Past Simple Vs Past Continuous, used to and would

Past simple
  • Use past simple to talk about completed actions in the past
  • To form negatives and questions in the past simple, use the auxiliary verb did
Past continuous
  • Use the past continuous for actions in progress in the past or temporary situations in the past
  • Can be used as a background or context to another event in the past simple
  • Use the past continuos for activities that are interrupted by a completed action. It is used in contract with the past simple
We often use when before the past simple and while before the past continuous

Used to and would can both be used to talk about habitual action in the past
Would is not very common in questions and used to is also used to talk about habitual states in the past

Kasabian - Vlad The Impaler from Edinburgh

West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum is the third studio album by British indie rock band Kasabian, which was released on 5 June 2009. The album was nominated for the 2009 Mercury Prize. In October 2009, it was voted the best album of the year by Q Magazine.
The West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum was a group of mental institutions built in West Yorkshire, England in the 1880s. The album cover depicts the band "getting dressed up for a party at the asylum, looking in the mirror at the costumes". Inspiration for such cover originated from the artwork of Amon Düül II's album Made in Germany.
The video shown below is "Vlad the Impaler" the eighth song of Kasabian's album. The lyric "Joker, meet you on the other side" is a tribute to the late Dark Knight actor Heath Ledger. Often when performed live Tom Meighan changes this line to "Heath Ledger, meet you on the other side." [wikipedia]
